In the course of ordinary perception of the information we obtain from the senses, almost inevitably becomes a source of distraction, because the mind tends to cling to the information from the sensory receptors. At the same time, being by nature bodily or incarnate, the essence, if we tried to be completely disconnected from their feelings or deny them the information that comes through, such attempts would have failed. A more practical solution would be to make friends with their senses and use the obtained information from them as a means for calming the mind.
In Buddhist texts, a process called samoprotivoyadiem, because it itself a source of distraction is used as a means of liberation from distraction. The metaphor comes from the well-known in the ancient practice in which to work with a particular substance, used the same material. For example, if you were to cut the glass, then you should have used glass and for cutting the iron needed to use an iron tool. Similarly, you can use your senses to eliminate distractions coming from them.
In the practice of meditation with an object we use our senses as a means to stabilize the mind. We can use the ability of a meditation on form and color, the ability of hearing - a meditation on the sound, the ability to smell - a meditation on the smell, the ability to taste - a meditation on the taste and the ability to touch - a meditation on the tactile sensations. Thus, information received from the senses, does not distract us, and becomes an essential tool in our practice.
As soon as I learned to monitor their perception of a quiet meditative style, my practice has become much easier to move. I noticed that it became much less emotionally involved in the things perceived. Instead of thinking "Oh, this type of yelling at me, I began to think:" Hmm, this man has a rather loud voice, a sharp tone, and perhaps these sounds he is trying to insult me or offend. "
In other words, it could not hurt me because I learned how to better treat the received sensory information, and suspended from an emotional or intellectual content, is usually associated with the issued of sounds. And because I could listen to him without taking a defensive position, it was quite open to answering him, defusing his anger, without losing self-esteem.
